![]() ![]() It is also possible to restore individual files and folders. The disk image created by Iperius Backup can be used to restore the system even on a dissimilar hardware (hardware independent restore). Iperius Backup supports the Windows drive imaging (block-level) backup. Image backups can be created in two modes: using the Iperius proprietary engine, that creates an image file that can be immediately started as a VM into Hyper-V (this backup mode can also be called "P2V", since it can be used to virtualize physical machines), or using the Windows Image Backup engine (wbadmin). Iperius Backup is a disk cloning software that can create drive image backups to VHD and VHDX files. Its a file server so there's not a big need to download it to test.Iperius Backup is a backup software and synchronization utility compatible with all Windows platforms. If I can view my files via a web console for free and just visually verify it looks right thats enough for me. I don't think I would do that very frequent. Good point about retrieving the data to test it costs. Even if the data took a week to receive that's better than not having it at all in that scenario. Our file server is in a fix size VHDX so I could potentially just upload that and pay for the wasted empty space in the volume.Īs for time to receive, that's really not an issue for us. Cost of uploading that however does tack on another $15 a month it seems unless I zip everything or TAR it. Scanning our file server it has about 500,000 files on it, but thats only an extra 0.01 TB per copy. Reading the fine print, it does say theres 32kb of overhead per every file. I'll take a look into the glacier vault lock. ![]() Oh interesting, I thought things like glacier didn't let you delete or change the data for 12 months. I've been pretty happy with Iperius backup and it looks like it has S3 backup support, but any other recommendations for backup tools? Or do you have a recommendation for something outside AWS? I'm curious, is there any other gotchas with AWS glacier storage? They advertise it as $1 a TB a month, but is there any other additional costs to that or surprise fees? I'm okay with our data recovery taking 12 hours to download. Is there a way to configure AWS to auto delete the data after 12 months? Before I started working here we once lost our entire raid array and had to pay $4000 for expedited file recovery. Totally reasonable price for data integrity. ![]() I think I read somewhere that you cannot modify that data for a year? So if I did monthly backup, I'd have to keep 12 copies and we have about 3TB of data that would be about $450 a year. I've always thought about doing some AWS cold storage because the prices look insanely low at $0.00099 a GB. Since it backups every 2 days and only have 1 copy, if our network is compromised and we don't catch it quick, I wouldn't trust our backed up data to not be compromised. I want to do more though and keep monthly records. I have no real sysadmin training and learn things as I need them so please go easy on me.Ĭurrently I have the server backed up with Iperius to an offsite server we own as incremental backups every M-W-F. I'm really a software engineer but am "the most qualified tech person" so I also do all of our IT. I work for a small company with on on prem server for AD/file storage on RAID 1. ![]()
